This consists of a number of stages and is based on the first interview which last up to 50 minutes.
History of presenting condition, past psychiatric and medical history, family history, personal history , social circumstances , drug and alcohol use, present medication etc are covered. It is sometimes useful to gather history from another source like a friend or family for better understanding.
This is assessed during interview and helps to diagnose the condition.
Following the initial consultation the diagnosis of the underlying problem is discussed. Sometimes further consultations, investigations and other informations are required to make a correct diagnosis. Psychiatric Diagnosis is based on the International Classification of Disease ICD 10.
Following the diagnosis a treatment plan is discussed with the patient. A range of treatment options are made available. Patients are then able to make the choice of treatment.
These appointments last for thirty minutes. These are necessary to monitor the response to the treatment and make further treatment plans as and when necessary.
Private prescriptions are issued which can be collected from any chemists. Patients will need to pay for these prescriptions. Patient's GPs are informed about the treatment (with patient's consent only).
Blood tests and CT scans may be required and can be ordered privately. The costs are covered by the medical insurers if patient have appropriate cover.
Dr Nandy uses the principles of various psychological therapies like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy ( CBT ), Interpersonal Therapy ( IPT ) and psychodynamic psychotherapy. He will discuss the suitability of therapy with his patient. He will provide couple consultation and family consultation if required. Otherwise therapy is on an individual basis.
